About the formats

What is FLAC?

FLAC compresses audio without losing any quality, typically to around half the size of WAV. It is popular for music archives, but the files are still large and not every device can play them.

What is M4A?

M4A is an audio file in the MPEG-4 container, usually encoded with AAC. iPhone Voice Memos and many Apple apps save audio as M4A. Some car stereos, older players and upload forms only accept MP3.

Questions

Questions and answers

Is it safe to convert my files here?

Yes. ConvertOrino converts your files with code that runs in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, nobody else can see your files, and they are gone as soon as you close the page.

Are the title, artist and album kept?

Yes. Tags such as title, artist, album and year are copied to the new file wherever the format can store them. Embedded cover art is not copied.

Is the FLAC to M4A tool free?

Yes, completely free. There is no sign up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no fixed limit, because your own device does the work. Very large files are limited by the memory of your device. Phones handle files of a few hundred megabytes, computers handle much more.

Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows?

Yes. It works in any modern browser, including Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing needs to be installed.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once the page has loaded, the conversion works without an internet connection, which also proves that your files are not sent anywhere.
