About the formats
What is WMA?
WMA is the audio format Microsoft introduced in 1999 for Windows Media Player, and many CDs were ripped to it in the 2000s. Apple devices, most browsers and many apps have never supported it, so old WMA collections are usually converted to MP3.
What is MP3?
MP3 is the most widely supported audio format in the world. It uses lossy compression to make files roughly a tenth the size of uncompressed audio. At 192 kbps or higher most listeners cannot tell it apart from the original.
Questions
Questions and answers
Is it safe to convert my files here?
Yes. ConvertOrino converts your files with code that runs in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, nobody else can see your files, and they are gone as soon as you close the page.
Can I convert protected WMA files?
No. WMA files bought from old online stores often have copy protection (DRM), which cannot be removed. Unprotected files, such as CDs you ripped yourself, convert normally.
Does it work with WMA Lossless and WMA Pro?
Yes. Standard WMA, WMA Pro and WMA Lossless files are all supported.
Are the title, artist and album kept?
Yes. Tags such as title, artist, album and year are copied to the new file wherever the format can store them. Embedded cover art is not copied.
Is the WMA to MP3 tool free?
Yes, completely free. There is no sign up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit, because your own device does the work. Very large files are limited by the memory of your device. Phones handle files of a few hundred megabytes, computers handle much more.
Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows?
Yes. It works in any modern browser, including Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing needs to be installed.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded, the conversion works without an internet connection, which also proves that your files are not sent anywhere.
