MP4 is the most common video format. Besides the picture it carries an audio track, usually AAC. Extracting that track as MP3 is handy for lectures, interviews, music videos you own and voice recordings made with the camera app.

MP3 is the most widely supported audio format in the world. It uses lossy compression to make files roughly a tenth the size of uncompressed audio. At 192 kbps or higher most listeners cannot tell it apart from the original.
