How it works

How to convert RAW to JPG

  1. Add your photos

Drop RAW files into the box above, or press Choose files. You can add as many as you like.

  2. Wait while they develop

Each RAW photo is developed on your device with the white balance your camera recorded. This takes a few seconds per photo, a little longer on phones.

  3. Download

Save each file on its own, or download everything at once as a ZIP file.

Why

Why convert RAW to JPG?

Most phones, websites, upload forms and photo apps cannot open camera RAW files. ConvertOrino develops the sensor data from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax and Leica cameras, and from DNG files made by phones, into a JPG you can share, print or post.

Formats

About the formats

What is RAW?

A RAW file holds the unprocessed data from a camera sensor, before the camera turns it into a picture. It keeps far more detail in the highlights and shadows than a JPG, which is why photographers shoot RAW, but every camera brand uses its own format and most apps cannot open them. Converting develops the data into a normal image.

What is JPG?

JPG (also written JPEG) has been the standard format for photos since 1992. It uses lossy compression, which keeps files small by discarding detail the eye barely notices. It cannot store transparency, so transparent areas become a solid color.

Questions

Questions and answers

Is it safe to convert my files here?

Yes. ConvertOrino converts your files with code that runs in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, nobody else can see your files, and they are gone as soon as you close the page.

Which RAW formats are supported?

CR2, CR3 and CRW from Canon, NEF and NRW from Nikon, ARW, SRF and SR2 from Sony, RAF from Fujifilm, ORF from Olympus and OM System, RW2 from Panasonic, PEF from Pentax, SRW from Samsung, DNG from phones, Leica and drones, and older formats such as 3FR, IIQ, KDC, MRW, ERF, MOS and X3F.

Can I save the photo as PNG or WebP instead?

Yes. Pick PNG or WebP under Convert to before adding your files. PNG keeps every pixel without compression, which is useful when you plan to edit the photo further, but the files are much larger.

Can I convert a whole memory card at once?

Yes. Select all the RAW files, or drag them in together. They are developed one after another, and you can download every JPG together as a ZIP file at the end.

Will the JPG look like the photo on my camera screen?

Very close, but not always identical. The camera screen shows a JPG made with the camera's own picture style. ConvertOrino develops the sensor data with LibRaw, using the white balance the camera recorded, so contrast and colors can differ slightly.

Why does each photo take a few seconds?

A RAW file holds unprocessed sensor data. Turning it into a picture means working out the full color of every pixel, applying white balance and converting the colors, and your own device does all of that. A 24 megapixel photo usually takes a few seconds on a computer and longer on a phone.

Can I adjust exposure or white balance?

Not here. This tool develops photos the way the camera recorded them, which is what most people need for sharing. For detailed editing use a raw editor such as Lightroom, Capture One, darktable or RawTherapee.

Is the RAW to JPG tool free?

Yes, completely free. There is no sign up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no fixed limit, because your own device does the work. Very large files are limited by the memory of your device. Phones handle files of a few hundred megabytes, computers handle much more.

Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows?

Yes. It works in any modern browser, including Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing needs to be installed.

Is hidden metadata such as location removed?

Yes, by default. Location, camera details and other EXIF data are removed from every converted image. For JPG output you can untick Remove metadata to keep the date taken and camera details instead.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once the page has loaded, the conversion works without an internet connection, which also proves that your files are not sent anywhere.
