About the formats
What is WAV?
WAV stores audio uncompressed, so it keeps full quality but takes a lot of space: about 10 MB per minute at CD quality. It is the standard format for editing in audio software.
What is MP3?
MP3 is the most widely supported audio format in the world. It uses lossy compression to make files roughly a tenth the size of uncompressed audio. At 192 kbps or higher most listeners cannot tell it apart from the original.
Questions
Questions and answers
Is it safe to convert my files here?
Yes. ConvertOrino converts your files with code that runs in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, nobody else can see your files, and they are gone as soon as you close the page.
Which bitrate should I choose?
192 kbps is a good default for music. Use 128 kbps for speech and podcasts, and 320 kbps if you want the highest MP3 quality.
Is the WAV to MP3 tool free?
Yes, completely free. There is no sign up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit, because your own device does the work. Very large files are limited by the memory of your device. Phones handle files of a few hundred megabytes, computers handle much more.
Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows?
Yes. It works in any modern browser, including Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing needs to be installed.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded, the conversion works without an internet connection, which also proves that your files are not sent anywhere.
