Why

Why convert JFIF to JPG?

A JFIF file is already a JPEG image, it just has an extension many upload forms and apps reject. ConvertOrino gives it the .jpg extension without re-compressing, so the image keeps its exact quality.

Formats

About the formats

What is JFIF?

A JFIF file is a normal JPEG image. Windows and some browsers save images from the web with the .jfif extension, which many upload forms and apps do not recognize. Converting to JPG only changes the extension, so the image keeps its exact quality.

What is JPG?

JPG (also written JPEG) has been the standard format for photos since 1992. It uses lossy compression, which keeps files small by discarding detail the eye barely notices. It cannot store transparency, so transparent areas become a solid color.

Questions

Questions and answers

Is it safe to convert my files here?

Yes. ConvertOrino converts your files with code that runs in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, nobody else can see your files, and they are gone as soon as you close the page.

Why do my downloaded images have the .jfif extension?

Windows associates JPEG images with the .jfif extension, so some browsers on Windows save web images that way. The file inside is a standard JPEG.

Can I just rename the file myself?

Yes, renaming .jfif to .jpg works too, because the content is identical. This tool does that for many files at once, and can also remove hidden metadata at the same time.

Is the JFIF to JPG tool free?

Yes, completely free. There is no sign up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no fixed limit, because your own device does the work. Very large files are limited by the memory of your device. Phones handle files of a few hundred megabytes, computers handle much more.

Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows?

Yes. It works in any modern browser, including Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing needs to be installed.

Is hidden metadata such as location removed?

Yes, by default. Location, camera details and other EXIF data are removed from every converted image. For JPG output you can untick Remove metadata to keep the date taken and camera details instead.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once the page has loaded, the conversion works without an internet connection, which also proves that your files are not sent anywhere.
