What is XLS?
XLS is the binary Excel format used until Office 2007. Many old spreadsheets and some bank and accounting exports still use it. It is limited to 65,536 rows and 256 columns, and some new tools and upload forms no longer accept it.
What is Excel?
XLSX has been the Excel format since Office 2007. A workbook can hold many sheets, and keeps numbers, dates and formulas. ConvertOrino reads the values Excel saved for each cell, also from older XLS files and LibreOffice ODS files.

Is formatting kept?
The values of every cell and every sheet are kept, with dates as dates. Colors, fonts, charts, macros and formulas are not carried over, since only the saved values are copied.

Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit, because your own device does the work. Very large files are limited by the memory of your device. Phones handle files of a few hundred megabytes, computers handle much more.
