About the formats
What is EXR?
OpenEXR was created by Industrial Light and Magic and is the standard for visual effects and 3D rendering. It stores floating point pixels with far more brightness range than a screen can show. Converting to JPG or PNG maps it to a normal image; very bright areas are clipped to white.
What is JPG?
JPG (also written JPEG) has been the standard format for photos since 1992. It uses lossy compression, which keeps files small by discarding detail the eye barely notices. It cannot store transparency, so transparent areas become a solid color.

Is it safe to convert my files here?
Yes. ConvertOrino converts your files with code that runs in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, nobody else can see your files, and they are gone as soon as you close the page.
How are very bright areas handled?
EXR files store brightness far beyond what a JPG can hold. The image is converted to normal sRGB colors and values brighter than white are clipped, so the result looks like the render at its default exposure.
Is the EXR to JPG tool free?
Yes, completely free. There is no sign up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit, because your own device does the work. Very large files are limited by the memory of your device. Phones handle files of a few hundred megabytes, computers handle much more.
Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows?
Yes. It works in any modern browser, including Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing needs to be installed.
Is hidden metadata such as location removed?
Yes, by default. Location, camera details and other EXIF data are removed from every converted image. For JPG output you can untick Remove metadata to keep the date taken and camera details instead.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded, the conversion works without an internet connection, which also proves that your files are not sent anywhere.
